Club celebrates author

Dr. Seuss was one of the most famous authors in the world. He wrote many books that children read when they are first learning how to read. His birthday was on March 2, and FCCLA decided that they wanted to celebrate. Craighead County Library held a party, and the members of FCCLA dressed up in fun colors, or as Seuss characters, read, made crafts with the kids, and handed out snacks. Sponsor, Jennifer Wray said, "The students enjoyed spending time with the kids and we had a lot of fun."

 AP students attend poverty camp

Josie Wicker

On March 2, students from AP Environmental Science & AP Chemistry departed from school to experience poverty & population firsthand. Brooklynne Rapert decided to take her classes and select students from Edie Hall's AP Chem class to Heifer Ranch, located in Perryville, Arkansas, so they could gain real life experience of living in poverty. Instead of her usual trip to the zoo, Rapert found this trip a successful way for students to learn basic economic policies involving trade & survival. When they arrived at the ranch they were grouped into different countries & were given limited resources. In order to gain fresh water or other goods they had to barter with separate countries. Each country also had chores that they had to complete each morning. One country might have had to clean house, while another simply had to build a fire or milk a goat. Senior Riley Adams said, "The experience really humbled me. It was a great way to see how countries had to work in order to live." The students lived in poverty for two days and one night.
